About the HCX 4.8.2 Maintenance Release
Very happy to inform everyone of the availability of the HCX 4.8.2!
Released on February 14th, HCX 4.8.2 is limited to critical fixes:
– It resolves an HA problem in 4.8.0 causing failovers intermittently. Deployments leveraging NE High Availability should avoid upgrades to 4.8.0 and go directly to 4.8.2 to circumvent the intermittent failover problem described in VMware KB 93652. Internally, longevity testing has been enhanced to capture future problem variations that trigger state changes hours or days after a lifecycle event.
– 4.8.2 fixes a problem related to malformed credentials (app.log shows “Given final block not properly padded” errors during upgrade or redeploy; the problem is described in VMware KB 96194, and the “Unable to push CA certificates and CRLs” when the mobility agent host component is added to the vCenter Server during upgrade or redeploy.
– Lastly, this includes fixes for OS Assisted/Linux migrations becoming stuck in the ‘starting initial sync’ state.
The HCX 4.8.2 maintenance follows the lifecycle time limes of the Late November 4.8 release. Product Links:
& as a quick recap this follows HCX 4.8, which namely enhances the scale out architecture by allowing multiple migration workers (IX) inside of the cluster (previously the migration was limited by the number of total clusters).

End of General Support for HCX 4.6
We’re coming up on the anniversary of HCX 4.6! This means it reaches End of General Support on Feb 17, 2024. I highly recommend a free upgrade to HCX 4.8.2. This latest version is suitable for lift & shift evacuations of vSphere 6.5 / 6.7 and NSXV. See VMware KB 82702. It is also possible to purchase Extended Support for HCX 4.6 (extension to August) or HCX 4.5 (extension to April). HCX systems going back to version 4.2 can be directly upgraded to the latest HCX release.

🫡 Goodbye HCX+
You may have come across the January announcement “VMware End of Availability of Perpetual Licensing and SaaS Services” or VMware KB 96168. The blog post does great in describing the VMware transition to a simplified portfolio without point solutions. You’ll find HCX mentioned in this table.

The net of it is this: HCX continues as a workload and network mobility enabler for migration in the VCF world. This milestone is an opportunity for renewed hyper-focus on innovation around core HCX competencies (highly compatible, resilient, large-scale scheduled live migrations for vSphere and non-vSphere workloads, with VM transformation options, in-OS guest config automation and turn-key workload connectivity). While the HCX+ experience now takes a backseat, core technology advancements can now come front and center.
I’m excited for what is next in the HCX world – please stay tuned!

I’m asking this lady 👆🏼 for the 15th or 16th time now to be my valentine! She generally tells me she’s not into the holiday, but that smells like a trap.
Wish me luck friends 🫣.

I developed a crazy fascination with sprouting at home. Having them with almost every meal. Kids are jumping on the bandwagon!
Good luck on Valentine’s day. Thanks for reading!
